More Sunshine!

Hooray for ANOTHER beautiful day!
I know these perfect sunny days aren't going to last too long (or it will be blistering hot... ugh) so we are squeezing in as much outside time as we can get!
We started our day with a very long walk (have I mentioned how much Mikenna likes to walk?)
Her response to most questions now is an "I don-o" with her arms in the air and shoulders shrugged...
Then she actually answers the question.
Proud that I captured that one on camera!
It was pretty warm today so when we came home I put out a big bowl of water, some cups, and pourer's for Kenna to play with on the patio.
She has always been a water baby and is very happy to be able to play in it again!
Note to self: next purchase for the backyard: sensory table.
What a goofball... gotta love her!

Hello Sunshine!

Spring has sprung!
Yes, I am very much a winter girl...
But the warmth of the first spring sunshine is also one of my favorite things.
Mikenna and I spent the entire day outside today (minus nap time).
We played and had a picnic at one of the nearby parks.
We were there for almost 3 hours soaking up the sunshine.
As usual we had to take a walk, well, more of a jog.
We walk/jog outside everyday, and Mikenna never wants to come stop walking. Maybe she will be a long distance runner?
By the way, the tongue thing is new. She has rediscovered her tongue and constantly has it sticking out of her mouth. Silly girl.
"No time for pictures mom, must keep walking."

We stopped at the pond to watch a family of ducks. Mikenna pointed out the "Da-y," "Maymi," and "Anenna" ducks... everything is now a little family of 3, super cute.
After saying "bye bye" to the "ucks" we played a little hide and seek...
Ha... found ya!
I love, love, love these days.
It's so nice to spend the day in the fresh air with my favorite little boo!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

March 18th, the day after St. Patty's Day, is Ryan's birthday!
Happy Birthday my love!
Ryan took the whole day off to spend with us and we loved having him home!
I made him a yummy breakfast:
Then we spent most of the day at home hanging out since it was pouring rain.
Kenna and I made a homemade ice cream cake for Daddy.
It was AMAZING.
Definitely worth the mess to make it.
Check out the recipe here.
*Don't judge the cake decorating, icing a slowly melting ice cream cake with a toddler climbing up your leg is not easy.*

I finally got to give Ry his gift that I have been so excited to give him. I kept it a secret until his b-day... go me!
Kings/Lakers tickets for the last game at Arco Arena! Fun... but a little sad.
Great seats though, we can't wait to have a fun date!
Hope you had an amazing birthday babe!
Thanks for being such an amazing husband, an even more amazing daddy, and my best friend!

Green Day!

Yep, this is oober late... (thank goodness for back dating)
But, I have some ridiculously cute pictures so I'm bloggin it late.
Like these ones... of my cute little girl in green:
My job as a parent is to brag about how cute she is, right?
Ahhh! Love her...
Anyway, we spent our St. Patty's Day doing fun green stuff!
We made green eggs for breakfast:
It totally grossed daddy out, but Kenna loved 'em!
Yum yum!!
We did some green painting with green glitter,
Which I should have taken pictures of, but I always forget when we're doing art.
Kenna did a little grocery shopping for me as well...
She shops several times a day now... thanks kiddo!
We made a green lunch as well...
Chicken enchiladas with verde sauce, kiwi, and some veggies:
Yum!
The bonus for the day?
Mikenna knows the color green now! It's the first color she picks out.
Thank, St. Patrick, for teaching my child a new color!
Happy green day!

Thankful Thursday

Thankful isn't a big enough word to describe my gratitude for my beautiful, healthy daughter.
I love her more than any words could ever explain.
I love everything from those curly blonde locks to those cute little painted toes.
I know all parents (I hope) feel this way about their child,
but in remembrance of Maddie and the Staats family I am writing it all down today.
I absolutely cannot imagine going through what they are currently dealing with...
I do however thank them for making me hug my baby a little tighter and appreciate everyday I have with her.

I am thankful for you miss Mikenna Faith.

In your short 16 months here you have taught me so many things.
You have taught me to laugh everyday. Even during the hardest times you can always make me laugh.
You have taught me to notice and appreciate the little things... puddles, rocks, birds...
You have taught me that sometimes laundry and dishes can wait until after a story or a tea party.
You have taught me how much I am capable of loving one little person, so much more than I ever thought possible.

Thank you for being my ray of sunshine every day princess, I can't imagine my life without you.
Mommy loves you!

Grandma's House and Dress-up

Winter is coming to an end (sadness for me, I LOVE winter).
Kenna, Jalapeno and I went up to my mama's house in Nevada City to enjoy the last bit of snow she had left.
Kenna loved it.
She loved the sound of her feet crunching in the snow.
She liked to pick up snowballs and throw them into the water on the street.
Cold mama!

It's really funny to watch her do things, I always wonder what she's thinking. She does everything so systematically, she plans out every move she makes. It makes me laugh.
It's so fun to take her places and watch her mind work.
I love spending my days with that cute little face!
Even better Kenna got to spend some time with her "gaga" and "ganpa".
I LOVE me some baby and grandma lovin!
Presh, right? My favorite from the day.
It's so fun watching Mikenna with all of our family members, she has a cute and very different little bond with every one of them.

On another note it has been raining which means winter isn't quite done yet. (yay!)
We got some new dress-up clothes thanks to Brenda and Mikenna loves them!
She even dressed her baby up in her elmo outfit and went for a walk (around the house).
I know what you're thinking, Snow White should have been blonde, right?
I love my little (snow) princess!

Craft time! (I LOVE naptime!)

Lately my little one has become VERY interested in the potty.
Like, literally, she will sit on it and talk to me for 30 minutes at a time.
I have been wanting to paint her step stools for both upstairs and downstairs bathrooms, but I've put it off.
This newfound interest in the potty finally got me started on my project.
I started with these, from Michael's- my most favoritest store in the world:

I wanted to paint one pink and girly for the upstairs bathroom,
and one with browns, turquoise, teal, and greens to match our decor downstairs.

I love doing stuff like this at naptime, it clears my head.
This week however, I didn't have to do it all at naptime because Mikenna was entertaining herself doing this:

She painted and colored right beside me most of the time... love her!
Anyway, both step stools turned out completely different, and I LOVE them both!

This is the stool for the bathroom upstairs:
And this one is for the bathroom downstairs:

Super different and oh so fun!

Hmm.... what project next?

My little Picasso

I am EXTREMELY excited...
Mikenna is really starting to love art... drawing, and especially painting!
The preschool teacher in me wants to run out and buy every art supply known to man (although I'm pretty sure I already own most).
Lately she has been taking a little bowl from her kitchen and a little whisk and pretending to paint the pantry door. She does this constantly.
So I thought, what better time for an easel?! YAY!
Once we got it home and put together Mikenna tested out the chalkboard side.
She colors with each and every piece of chalk.
I love it... we end up with a very colorful picture each time :]

Then I broke out the paints and brushes.
Even though she's never painted with a brush, she knew exactly what to do.
I love how focused she is.
We spent hours painting!
While Mikenna was painting I would say, "can you paint with blue (or red, yellow, etc) now?" And sure enough she would find the right one each time. Smart girl!
I can't get enough of that little face.
I ended up with a beautiful painting that will be hanging in my house very soon.
I love painting with my cute little Picasso!

Accidentally In Love

I have been asked a million times how Ryan and I met, and given out the short version a million and one times, but I've never actually written it down. It will be very cool to have documented someday. So here it goes, our love story...

<DISCLAIMER: for all parents, family, and future children reading this, disregard any of the sleeping over and alcohol business, none of that ever happened :]>

Well, let's see... I was 21 and in my last year of college, working as a co-director of the childcare program at Fit One in Chico. Still pretty fresh out of a 6 year long relationship, I was definitely enjoying going out to the bars, having fun, and dating. Thank you Chico, for being there when I most needed you. You definitely got me through some rough times.

Ryan was 22 and a college student by day and Fit One front desk man by night (ha). We had met a few times here and there when I came to work out late at night (usually with my ex... whoops!). We worked at the same place but didn't really know each other. We would always flirt a bit but never turned into anything more than a few words.

December 17, 2005
Probably the most significant day of my life. We worked with such a fun group of people at Fit One, and  Holiday parties were always pretty amazing. This one was definitely the best. Ryan didn't actually come to the party but clearly I was enjoying myself... exhibit A:

After we left the party a group of us went out to the bars, and in walked Ryan with some of MY good friends (what?). Turns out several of his friends, and even roommates were some of my friends as well. How we never ran into eachother before is beyond me. My always smooth Ryan offered to buy my friends and me shots and drinks for most of the night and by the end of the night we were dancing together. Not sure how it happened but we ended up kissing at Joe's bar in front of everyone we work with. Yep we were those people. Who does that?

As the bars started closing everyone started going their separate ways... I am never one to just go home so when a couple friends invited me to their house to go listen to Ryan spin I was there. (He's a DJ too? Bonus points!) I ended up back at Ryan's house with a few people, well a few of my guy friends and Ryan. Somehow all my girlfriends had ended up different places. (Still sorry about forgetting about you Liz, I remember nothing of that conversation!) We hung out for a while and once everyone started getting tired I debated what to do... call for a ride? Sleep on the couch? Of course Ry's roomies were more than welcoming to let me sleep in their beds (boys will be boys). Ryan was the only one not offering me pajamas and asking me to stay in his room... I climbed in his big comfy bed and told him "I'm sleeping in your room, I trust you. You can sleep in here with me, but if you try anything I'm leaving." I told him I was enjoying being single and did not want to get into any relationship and he said he felt the same way. We ended up staying up talking all night long. No awkwardness, no weird silences, just laughter and deep conversation. If I could relive any night of my life, this would be it.

He drove me to my car bright and early the next morning when I woke him up and asked him to (what a gentleman). Our shifts at work overlapped a little for the next couple weeks and we would flirt a little back and forth. Then came New Year's Eve. Since we had a lot of the same friends we all planned to go out together. By the time some of my girlfriends and I got to Ryan's house at 8:00 he had been drinking for hours. After dragging him to the Bear (literally) and celebrating the New Year we walked back to his house. We stayed up talking again for hours and at one point he stopped me and said, "I love you. I mean, I don't LOVE you but like, I love you!" LOL I will never forget that moment. This boy who had played it so cool over the last few weeks spilled it all out after some drinks.

New Year's 2005-2006
We dated and spent more and more time together over the next few months and repeatedly reminded each other that "this was not a relationship." But the more I was around him, the more I wanted to be around him. At one point he "tested" me by telling me he was over being around me...  I was shocked how much it hurt. I swallowed my pride, said "ok, fine" and walked away. About ten steps away I got angry, turned back around and stormed back to him. I yelled at him and told him he was a liar, and that I knew he was happy around me. He laughed and told me he just wanted to make sure it was for real (meany). After that we started spending more and more time together.

March 18, 2006.
It was Ryan's birthday and although everyone was extremely hung over from St. Patty's the day before we dragged ourselves out to Riley's to celebrate. On our long walk home Ryan stopped me and kissed me. He told me he was head over heels in love with me and that he DID want a relationship with me. He asked me if I would officially be his girlfriend, and if I would come with him to meet his mama the next day. (hehe, so cute.) That spot on Ivy street will always have a huge chunk of my heart.

Our "it's not a relationship" turned into amazing, head over heels love. Real love, sappy love, love that I never ever imagined I would have. Have you heard that song "Accidentally In Love" by the Counting Crows? Yep, the Shrek one... I'm pretty sure that song was written about us. We moved to Rocklin together a year and a half later and in February 2009 we found out I was pregnant. I of course found out first and was beyond terrified to tell Ryan. Once I finally got the nerve to tell him (and after a LONG period of silence) he told me he was excited. To this day he still surprises me. I tend to expect the worst and he always does the best.

We decided to get married 2 months later. I never got the "dream proposal" that you plan out when you are a little girl but I wouldn't have it any other way. Our wedding was perfect- small, cozy, and beautiful. I guess things didn't really happen the way they are "supposed to," but if I could do it all over I wouldn't change a thing. I loved our wedding, and I love the fact that even though I wasn't showing yet, Mikenna Faith was with us on our wedding day.

Fast forward to today... we have a house, an amazing baby girl, and a beautiful family. I love our little family. We aren't perfect, we fight and we have our ups and our downs. We do the wrong things sometimes but I know that we are able to get through anything. I never would have imagined 5 1/2 years ago that a boy who kissed me in a Chico bar would turn into my prince charming, and the Daddy I have always hoped for for my children.

Life works in funny ways sometimes and I'm so glad it does.
